Skyhold is the great station that hangs in orbit far above the world, the seat of the Architects and the heart of all their works. It is reached only through a portal, and the air aboard it is not the air of the world below — without a Diving Helmet to breathe, no traveller lasts long in its corridors. Within, Skyhold is all clean geometry and quiet machinery: sealed halls, humming arrays, and the cold, calibrated light its frail masters build for their own eyes.
The station is patrolled by small flying Scout fixers and yellow-shelled Sonari androids, who tend its machinery and turn on intruders without hesitation. At its heart waits the Conductor — the gold-shirted master of the Architects, said to be grown into the very station it commands. It has never been defeated, and Skyhold is the single most dangerous place a traveller can set foot. (For the Architects, the Sonari, the Scouts, and the Conductor, see Architects.)
